  • The Big Reveal   (April 16, 2017 - Easter!)

We tremble at the thought of Jesus on the cross and the sacrifice Christ made for us. Do we also tremble at the reality of the resurrection? How does the reality of Jesus Christ's resurrection impact our daily lives? Let us tremble with the grace and opportunity this reality gives to us and to the world!

  • Troubling Times  (4/9/17)

We are tempted to jump from the shouts of Hosanna to the joyful cries of "Christ is risen!" When we skip over the troubling moments of the washing of the disciples' feet;  the agony in the garden of Gethsemane; the humiliation of the trials before the Sanhedrin and Pilate; the pain and torture of the flogging, beating, and crucifixion of Christ, we miss some of the most powerful moments of Jesus Christ's incarnation and redemption of creation. As Christ entered the life of humanity for our salvation, let us pause to experience the depth of God's love revealed in  Jesus Christ's life and death so that we might more fully know the power of Jesus Christ's resurrection.

  • A Dangerous Man?   (4/2/17)

What do you think of when you think of Jesus? Surrounded by children? Holding a lamb? Why would any one think this man was dangerous?

  • Why Is It Hard to Hear God?  (3/26/17)

The disciples have trouble understanding what Jesus taught. The Pharisees and scribes had trouble. Even some of the followers couldn't accept what Jesus was saying. Why did Jesus speak in parables? Why did he say things so difficult to hear? Does God not want us to listen? Of course God does - God wants us to listen, to receive God's grace as a gift (without thinking we earned it), and to have God's Word transform every aspect of our lives.  So, how does this happen?

  • Not That, But This                  03/19/17

God's message in Jesus Christ can be a bit unsettling. From faithful people like John the Baptist and Nicodemus, to outsiders like the Samaritan woman at the well, to doubters like the Pharisees, and even to the devil Jesus upset peoples' preconceived ideas about who the Messiah would be. But this unsettling had a good purpose - to shake us out of a limiting box and into the grace and glory of God!

  • God's Peculiar Timing - Christmas in March?

    03/12/17

God's timing is not our timing, God's ways are not our ways, but God's timing and ways are the best!  Looking at God's ways of reaching out to us, of declaring that God is with us, and wants to be with us.

  • Rebuilding Walls, Rebuilding Hearts  03/05/17

The Israelites were able to rebuild the walls, but God soon let them know they needed to rebuild their hearts as well. How do we open ourselves to let God rebuild our hearts?

  • The Trappings of Power  02/26/17

The book of Esther is full of people with power, or with the trappings of power. Sometimes the trappings of power trap the people into bad positions. Sometimes those seemingly without power turn out to have great power. What power do we have? What kind of power do we have?

  • Second Guessing   (02/19/2017)

The returned exiles began work on the temple, but when troubles arose they gave up for sixteen years. They second guessed their mission. How do we resolve our second guessing - of ourselves, of others, of God?

  • Even If     (02/12/2017)

If you know you are going to be rescued it is easy to have faith. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego show great faith when they declare that "Even if God does not choose to rescue us, we will not bow down to an idol" How is your "even if" faith?

  • Disciplined Hope   (02/5/2017)

What hope comes from the discipline of God? God reaches out to the kingdoms of Israel and Judah - and to us - with discipline and hope.

  • Challenges of Faith (1/22/17)

In the midst of so much turmoil, we face the challenges of our faith not alone, but with the still small voice of God.

  • Power and Responsibility (1/15/17)

Rehoboam and Jeroboam learned about their responsibilities to their people when they were given charge of separate tribes of Israel.

  • Seeking Wisdom (1/8/17)

We face the new year, asking God to grant us wisdom not necessarily for great deeds, but for the everyday challenges that we face together.

  • Not Perfect, But Loved (1/1/17)

Even King David fell into temptation and sin, but even King David was met with God's forgiving grace.

  • Fighting the Right Battle (11/20/16)

With courage and with the Lord, we face our own personal challenges. But sometimes we mistake where and how we should be fighting.

  • Unlikely Election (11/6/16)

Naomi looks back on her life: her family, the famine, her loss of faith, and the love for Ruth that rekindled her faith in God.

  • Who Am I to Judge? (10/30/16)

Deborah, Gideon, and Samson. Three very different leaders for three very different times in Israel.

  • Wandering Among Blessings (10/16/16)

How do the Israelites continue straying from God when they receive so many blessings? Perhaps we could ask ourselves the same thing.
